Yesterday we celebrated our first service of the new year, 2019, thanking the Lord for His many blessings. The sermon title was The God of New Beginnings.
In Genesis (read chapter 1 & 2), we see how God created the heavens and the earth. God made something out of nothing. In fact, God took a world that was formless and void and made our universe, the earth, animals, and most importantly humans. The Bible says that we are made in His image. Adam was created as the first male and Eve as the first female. They are the original parents of humankind. God’s original creation was perfect. As an artist, when I paint, sometimes I feel that my work could be better. When God creates something, His creation is always perfect.
Adam and Eve could be in the presence of God and live. They probably spent most days walking with God. Could you image walking with God on the earth? Well, when sin entered our world as a result of Adam and Eve eating the fruit that God said not to, they could no longer be in the presence of God. Adam and Eve went from being immortal to mortal beings that would die.
Something to remember is that before sin entered the earth, there were no days and no time to keep track of. When sin entered the earth, everything changed. The eyes of Adam and Eve were opened and they saw there own nakedness. The perfection of the garden of Eden was ruined by sin as thorns and thistles would grow out of the ground because the ground was cursed. Animals were originally made to be man’s companion. After the fall, God allowed Adam and Eve to kill animals to create clothing for them and food.
Our God is so loving that he has worked with fallen man to bring about His purposes on the earth. No matter what man has done to destroy God’s people, God always helps us to get through this life. We only need to trust Him every day.
The Bible says the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life. When we chose God, He brings about new beginnings in our lives. God knows what He is doing and never lies. He wants to use us for His plans and purposes. Read Jeremiah 29:11. What new beginnings does God have for you in 2019? Why not ask Him what His plans are for your life? Being a Christian is about having a relationship with Jesus Christ. Why not put on the top of your New Year’s resolution list to trust Jesus by placing Him first on the throne of your heart? He died for you and has given you eternal life.
